Biography

Bethsave “Betsy” Lozano serves as the Director of Student Engagement and Belonging at the 黑料社区app School of Dentistry and School of Optometry. With over 17 years of service to the University, Lozano has dedicated her career to supporting student access, engagement, and academic achievement, particularly for those from historically underserved, economically, and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. She also serves as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for the School of Dentistry and the School of Optometry, guiding international students through visa compliance and onboarding while coordinating with departments across the institution.

Lozano began her career at Detroit Mercy as a Patient Care Representative, where she developed a deep appreciation for student and patient support. She later transitioned into the Office of Admissions before advancing through several progressive leadership roles, including Administrative Assistant, Program Coordinator, and Interim Director in the Office of the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Economics and her Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Madonna University.

In her current role, Lozano oversees multiple pipeline and outreach programs aimed at increasing access to oral and optometry health careers. These include the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP), Dental Imprint, Urban Impressions, SNDA Impressions Day, and the C2 Pipeline dental track, among others. She also works closely with K–16 schools, community organizations, and Delta Dental, promote educational opportunity and long-term impact.

Lozano actively engages with national and local organizations that support student development and professional access, including American College Personnel Association (ACPA), American Dental Education Association (ADEA), Student National Dental Association (SNDA), Hispanic Student Dental Association HSDA) and Society of American Indian Dentists (SAID). She also serves on university-wide committees, including the Learning Environment and Diversity (LEAD) Committee and provides guest lectures and training sessions on cross-cultural communication and student success strategies.
